From Global Health to the Chocolate Aisle

Sometimes, our deepest discoveries happen quietly, far from home. For me, they arrived in a dusty Ugandan clinic, where I witnessed food choices transform the effectiveness of HIV treatments, and along Lake Chad in Nigeria, where I learned of spirulina—a powerful superfood nourishing communities around the world.

Years later, when I stepped away from my international public health career to raise my family, those distant experiences reemerged—this time in my own kitchen, as a tiny hand reached for chocolate.

When my daughter developed food allergies, our kitchen became both a laboratory and a sanctuary. Grocery shopping was suddenly a draining exercise in label-reading and disappointment—finding a treat that was safe, delicious, and nourishing felt nearly impossible.

So, I started making my own.

Cocoa. Spirulina. Coconut oil. Pure ingredients, real and recognizable, combined into a chocolate treat my daughter could enjoy without worry.

BELOVD didn’t have a name yet. But it had a heartbeat.

When I was ready to return to a career, I knew I couldn’t go back to spending weeks away from home. But I also couldn’t ignore what I’d come to know so deeply:

That real food feels better, and is better.
That it’s possible to enjoy and savor, without fillers, allergens, or ultra-processed shortcuts. And that chocolate—the most beloved food of all—was overdue for a return to its real-food-ingredient roots.

BELOVD champions that return –for chocolate and all food. Because today’s grocery shelves are filled with products manufactured to last, not crafted to nourish.

Everything we craft begins with these beliefs:

No labels to decode. No compromises to make. Just chocolate—honest, welcoming, and crafted with care.
